A copper-alloy Roman medallion of Severus Alexander (AD 222-235), dating to the period c.AD 231 (Reece Period 11). FIDES MILI-TVM reverse type depicting Jupiter naked standing front, head left, holding thunderbolt in right hand and long sceptre in left. Severus Alexander helmeted, in military dress, stands facing him, sacrificing out of a patera over a tripod and holding a spear in left hand and is crowned by Virtus helmeted, in military dress, standing behind him; at foot left a shield; to right behind Jupiter, a standard. Mint of Rome.
Ref: BMC VI, p. 186, no. 727; BMCRM p.39, no. 7; Gnecchi III, pl. 152, no.15 (all the same medal).
Two medallions of this type and of the same module are held in the British Museum: 1872,0709.408 (https://tinyurl.com/yah2fgal) and R.13012 (https://tinyurl.com/y83uxuso). The current example appears to be from the same dies, albeit perhaps slightly more worn.
Just seven Roman medallions are currently recorded on the PAS, this example is the first of Severus Alexander and of the first half of the 3rd century all together.

Two silver denarii, both in relatively crisp condition. Apart from siliquae from the second half of the 4th century and nummi from the 330s onwards, no other Roman coins have so far been found in this field. This fact, combined with the closeness of these two coins to one another in date and condistion, makes it very likely that they went into the ground together, either as part of a purse loss or a larger, concealed hoard. The two coins are:
1. Silver denarius of Elagabalus, Rome, reverse P M TR P IIII COS III P P, Sol advancing left with whip, star in left field, RIC IV.2, 40, weight 2.68g, AD221
2. Silver denarius of Severus Alexander, Rome, reverse P M TR P II COS P P, Pax standing left with olive branch and sceptre, RIC IV.2, 27, weight 2.02g, AD223
The loss or deposition of these two coins most probably falls, given their condition, in the 220s or 230s
