Slighty everted rim. Hard orange fabric with sparse quartz, iron ore and mica inclusions. Patches of red-brown, fairly coarse, slightly glossy slip remaining on both surfaces. Laminar fracture. Possibly of Central Gaulish, standard Lezoux, or East Gaulish, Trier, fabric, which would indicate a date range of c.120-c.250 (Tyres 1996, p.112-113). A rim shard from a Roman samian ware vessel. The rim is straight. The fabric is hard, very fine and pinkish in colour, with few visible inclusions and patches of glossy reddish slip remaining on both faces. It is likely to be of South Gaulish (La Graufesenque) manufacture, which was primarily exported to Britain between AD c.40-c.100 (Tyres 1996, p.112).
