Roman amphora handle sherd. Round in section with a slightly raised central longitudinal rib. Oxidised buff fabric. Inclusions of golden mica, common ill-sorted angular and sub-rounded white quartz (c.0.2-3.5mm with some of the larger fragments perhaps being feldspar), sparse brown and black rock fragments (0.5-3.3mm), and bright red-orange clay? (0.5-3.0mm). Handle (just below shoulder) width c.52mm & thickness c.50mm, weight 621.2g.
The fabric appears to match Peacock & WIlliams Class 50 amphorae (P&W AM 50), as described in Tomber & Dore 1998 ('The National Roman Fabric Reference…

Roman earthenware tile fragments x2. Coarse oxidised-fired tile fragments, probably from box-flue tiles. Combed lines on the outer surface, presumably to aid the wall plaster to adhere to it. Numerous quartz sands 0.3mm-2.5mm, common orange clay inclusions 0.8mm-1.8mm, sparse non-crystalline ?iron-rich red inclusions 1.5mm-2.3mm, sparse non-crystalline dark grey inclusions 0.9mm-1.2mm. Some iron-staining on one of the fragments. Total weight 172.2g.

Unidentified object, fragment of an earthenware object with holes. One side is flat, the other has a raised curved ridge; to either side of the ridge circular-sectioned holes (diameter c.2.5mm) have been pushed through from the ridged side to the flat side. Oxidised fired sandy orange fabric. Uncertain function - possibly a sieve? Uncertain date - possibly Roman? Length 47.5mm, width 26.3mm, thickness 21.4mm, weight 22.95g.

2 Derbyshire ware jar sherd, oxidised fired, pimply goose-flesh appearence. Weight 5.30g. (middle right in photograph)
3-5 Three greyware sherds, two body and one base; wire marks on the base (from removing from wheel); diameter of base 50mm; weight of base 18.31g, body 1 25.59g, body 2 13.25g.
