Two shards of Roman samian ware vessels found close together. Both undecorated body shards of the same soft orange fabric with a darker orange/red shiny slipped outer surface. Probably of East Gaulish manufacture, exported to Britain primarily between AD 120-260.

A rim shard from a Roman New Forest colour-coated ware vessel, dating to AD c.260-370. The rim is very slightly everted at the top. Fine, hard, sandy, buff coloured fabric with a highly abraded dark coloured slip coating. The fabric is tempered with plentiful fine sand and sparse medium to large fragments of iron ore.

A shard from an early Roman black burnished ware vessel. The rim is flat above and very slightly everted, with a groove encircling the outside of the vessel at its base. It is very similar to coarseware vessel form 26 in 'Excavations at Greyhound Yard, Dorchester' (Woodward et al. 1993, p.260), which is dated to AD c.75-120 suggesting a similar date for this vessel. The outer surfaces of the fabric are an oxidised light orange in colour, whilst the inner core is a reduced grey. The fabric is hard and fairly rough in texture, tempered with abundant medium sized, rounded grains of quartz…

A large shard from the rim of Roman coarseware jar. The shard is very rough in texture. It has a pinkish orange exterior sufaces, with a grey-brown inner core. It is tempered with large quantities of poorly sorted quartz and smaller amounts of poorly sorted limstone and iron ore fragments.
