The fragment is a body sherd with a soft, soapy texture, orange fabric and glossy red slip on the exterior surface. All edges are worn and broken. A fragment of a ceramic mortarium of Roman date, c. AD 200-410. The fragment is a rim sherd of a Roman mortarium. The rim is upturned, double flanged, and forms an exterior edge which is decorated with at least four narrow grooves. The fabric is severely abraded on all faces and is a heavily sand-tempered reduced grey ware.
