A heavily abraded fragment of a Roman mortarium. The fragment has a hard fired sand-tempered fabric with oxidised reddish exterior and a reduced grey core. One side (the inside surface) has sub angular and sub rounded flint clasts embedded onto it to create a grinding surface.

A rim fragment from a Roman Oxford clay mortarium dating AD 43-410. The rim comprises a white fabric with inclusions of black grit and sand. Most of the sand is less than 0.5mm, with sparse pieces <2mm. The colour of the surfaces and breaks are the same buff-white. Both ends of the fragment are broken, as is the lower edge where the widened rim extends into the body wall. A fragment of a ceramic mortarium of Roman date, c. AD 200-410. The fragment is a rim sherd of a Roman mortarium. The rim is upturned, double flanged, and forms an exterior edge which is decorated with at least four narrow grooves. The fabric is severely abraded on all faces and is a heavily sand-tempered reduced grey ware. A sherd of a ceramic mortarium of Roman date (c. AD 43-410). The sherd is sub-rectangular in plan and consists of a part of the rim, part of the concave bowl, part of the foot ring, and part of the funnel. At the top of the object, there are remnants of the rim, with part of the rim bent back upon itself to form the funnel. A rim sherd fragment from a Roman probably East Gaulish (Trier) samian ware mortarium Form Dragendorff 45 dating to the first half or middle of the 3rd century.
