A rim sherd of a ceramic vessel of Roman date (c. AD 43-410) that consists of the rim and a small part of the body. The sherd is roughly sub-trapezoidal in plan, tapering from 26.67mm wide near the top to 13.48mm wide near the bottom. The actual rim has a sub-triangular cross section and starts at 6.96mm thick just after the rounded edge of the rim and expands to 14.14mm thick near the bottom of the actual rim, before tapering quickly to 7.54mm thick for the body proper. The sherd is relatively hard and has a possibly soapy feel. The interior surface and interior margin is grey to dar…

There are two segments remaining of an interior surface, one of which is roughly trapezoidal in plan and the other is sub-rectangular. Beneath this, the walls of the vessel are 16.05mm thick and continue until breakages near the bottom. The interior surfaces, and exterior surfaces are white and the core are cream coloured. A ceramic base sherd of likely Roman date (AD 43-402). The sherd is semi-circular in plan. The base of the vessel had a diameter of around 42.07mm. The interior of the base of the vessel stands at 5.39mm high and gradually increases to 7.04mm high at the centre of a raised conical section in the centre of the base. Walls of the vessel extend upwards around 80% to 90% of the vessel. These start off at 9.78mm thick near the base, gradually reducing to 8.85mm thick before bending outwards and tapering to 5.21mm thick before the break. The interior and exterior surfaces are grey whilst t…

A base sherd of a ceramic vessel of Roman date (AD 43-410), likely Samian ware. The sherd is roughly irregularly pentagonal in plan. It starts at 50.57mm wide and 5.81mm thick near break at the top where part of the vessel is curved upwards to form remnants of the wall of the vessel. The base itself proper starts out at 5.65mm thick and expands to 7.92mm thick before the foot-ring. At the foot-ring, the thickness expands to 18.91mm, which, when the small segments of wall are added, gives the vessel a total height of 20.52mm. After the foot ring, the thickness reduces to 4.76…

A base sherd of a ceramic vessel of Roman date (AD 43-410), likely Samian ware. The sherd is roughly trapezoidal in plan. It starts out at 27.22mm wide and 8.34mm thick at the break at the top where the sherd curves upwards to form the body of the vessel. Beneath this, there is an incised line on the exterior surface that reduces the thickness to 8.04mm, before a raised line followed by another incised groove. After this, the thickness expands to 8.74mm just before the start of the base proper. The base proper has a foot-ring with a pointed oval cross section, and the sherd is 19…

A rim sherd of a ceramic vessel of Roman date (AD 43-410), likely Samian ware. The sherd is roughly triangular in plan, starting at 54.93mm wide at the top and tapering to a point near the bottom. The rounded rim expands to 7.69mm thick at its apex, before a groove on the exterior beneath it reduces the thickness to 6.14mm. The thickness then increases to 6.28mm and gradually increases to 6.76mm just before the break at the bottom of the sherd. The interior and exterior surfaces are smooth and reddish brown in colour whilst the core is a lighter shade of reddish orange. The …

A rim sherd of a ceramic vessel of likely Roman date (c. AD 43-410). Due to the size of the sherd, it likely was from an amphora. The sherd is pentagonal in plan. It starts off at 138.41mm wide and 51.53mm thick at the apex of the lip. There is a flat bottom of the lip, with a groove with a semi-circular profile beneath it where the thickness declines to 37.29mm. The width expands to 171.72mm, before narrowing towards a point. Meanwhile, the walls of the vessel begin to curve outwards and have a thickness of 20.64mm just before the breakage. The interior and exterior surfaces are pale…

The sherd starts at 103.66mm wide and 20.49mm thick at the rounded lip, dropping to 93.15mm wide and 8.78mm thick below the lip, gradually tapering to 88.16mm wide and 4.32mm thick before the rounded bottom of the sherd. The sherd has a dark grey to black exterior and interior surface with a greyish brown core. There appear to be moderate micaceous inclusions, along with sparse white inclusions. The vessel appears to have been wheel made. …

A rim sherd of a ceramic vessel of Roman date (c. AD 43-410), likely Samian ware. The sherd is roughly parallelogram shaped in profile, though it is more accurately described as an irregular pentagon. At the top of the sherd, it is 56.34mm wide, expanding to 64.26mm wide near the bottom of the lip of the rim. The maximum thickness of the rim is 8.11mm thick, with a thickness of 7.29mm along a circumferential thin raised rib near the bottom of the lip, before a sudden reduction in thickness to 5.87mm thick just below the rim. The sherd expands to 8.67mm thick near the bottom whilst als…
