A sherd of ceramic vessel of Roman date (AD 125-300). The sherd is a partial base and body sherd from a wheel thrown greyware vessel. The fabric is very hard and sandy with sparse stone inclusions. The base is a small, circular pedestal form.  There are circumferential bands visible beneath the slip, indicative of a wheel thrown vessel. A sherd of a ceramic Vessel of Roman date (AD 43-200). The sherd is probable of Gaulish Samian ware. This example is probably from vessel of Dragendorff 18-31, a bowl or dish. The rim sherd has a small projecting rolled lip. The body has repeating concentric circular grooves around the outer surface. The fabric is grey in colour with no visible inclusions. There is a minor amount of glossy orange glaze retained under the rim, and the surface has been fragmented, with three sections of the sherd retained.   Height: 48.46mm, Width: 46.26mm, Thickness: 8.03mm, Weight: 16.9g

The fabric is light buff and is soft and soapy with no visible inclusions. Both inner and outer surfaces have a slip coating, with the inner surface being dark brown/grey, while the outer is predominantly light brown.
