A fragmens of Roman mosaic flooring.
Description: The fragment is made up of four cut tile tessera set in a white mortar, while relatively flat on the upper surface the back is very irregular. The tesserae are of varied colour and two of the four are heavily obscured by the mortar.
Measurements: 70.31mm long, 51.17mm wide, 24.53mm thick and 114.05g in weight.

A ceramic probable tessera of Roman date (c. AD 43 - 410). Of a very high fined pale grey ceramic, fine grained with a soapy texture. The probable tessera is sub-rectangular and assymetrical in shape, with traces of cement surviving on three of its faces.

The tessera is in the form of an irregular cube. It is red on the upper and lower faces and grey in the centre. A circular brown inclusion is of uncertain material.

A complete ceramic piece of Roman tessera (AD 43-410). The object is a cuboid, both top and bottom are sub-square and smooth. The four sides are rectangular and irregular . The fabric is mottled pink - grey in colour, with some brown staining particularly on the sides. There is no design or decoration visible. This is a solitary tessera, so might have been reused, for example, as a gaming piece or counter.

A total of 82 cut tile tesserae of Roman date. All have traces of mortar on at least one surface and the majority are formed from irregularly cut orange/pink Roman tile, with the exception of one white and two grey examples. In addition there are four groups of tesserae that remain mortared together, comprising three groups of two tesserae and one group of four tesserae. Two ceramic tesserae dating to the Roman period.
(1) Ceramic tessera, sub-rectangular in plan and cuboid in shape, with one rounded outer surface. It is likely that this tessera was manufactured from the flange of a tegula tile. Grog-tempered. Measurements: 31.3 mm long, 29.2 mm wide, 20.9 mm thick and weighs 29.6 grams.
(2) Ceramic tessera, sub-rectangular in plan and cuboid in shape. Grog-temper and micaceous inclusions. Measurements: 24.1 mm long, 22.1 mm wide, 17.8 mm thick and weighs 15.8 grams.

A Roman ceramic tessera dating to the period c. AD 43 - 410. The object is sub-square is plan and rectangular in cross section. The fabric is relatively soft fired and pale pink/orange colour with a uniform colour throughout. It is slightly micaceous with probably fine saned inclusion of less than 10% and around 10% rounded grog temper, poorly sorted with the largest visible 2.8mm across but most much smaller.
