Two body sherds, probably from a Roman coarse ware vessel. The hard fabric is dark grey on the exterior and the interior is light grey. The sherds have frequent angular dark inclusions and sparse clear grains possibly quartz. The fronts of the sherds have a panel of decoration consisting of a continuous looped or spiral line.
These sherds found in the Malton, North Yorks area probably represent examples of local later Roman coarsewares. Pottery supply to the Malton area most probably largely provisioned by local potters working in the neighbouring parish of Norton. Pottery from a t…
