The sherd has a smooth, unburnished external surface and appears to possibly be decorated with cross hatching on the outer surface. The fabric is hard and has fine inclusions. A fragment of an incomplete, Roman, wheel turned, ceramic, bowl. Description: A body sherd fragment from a Roman samian bowl, it is likely to be of Central or East Gaulish manufacture. The fabric is a buff orange colour and is fully oxidised. It is hard with well sorted, abundant, angular, limestone inclusions <0.2mm, and occasional long voids. The interior and exterior of the vessel has been coated in a dark orange glossy slip. The breaks are smooth and slightly abraded. The sherd is plain and undecorated. The fabric is fired with a pale grey core and brown/grey margins with rough surfaces with occasional silver mica. The fabric is tempered with abundant well-sorted inclusions of quartz, grog and angular black grains. The breaks are very worn and abraded.
