An incomplete ceramic rim sherd originating from a very large storage jar of probable Roman date, c. 43-410 AD. The sherd demonstrates a rounded everted rim, with a sharply angled shoulder that extends downwards before truncating abruptly in old damage. The fabric is rather variable in colour, mostly being a light orangey/pinkish brown colour though the broken section reveals some grey and black oxidised sections that have fired differently. Very frequent inclusions of sand temper are visible, ranging from small to medium size. Preserved in somewhat abraded condition with several hair…

A fragment of a Roman, ceramic, samian ware vessel, possibly 1st century AD.40-100. The fragment is possibly from a Form 23 bowl, or a cup (Webster 1996 page 36). There are some scratches present on the inside of the fragment, and along the top the rim is worn on the inside. The fragment itself is triangular shaped, with it becoming a point towards the foot of the vessel. Height: 22.21…

Object type: TEGULA
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A fragment of a ceramic Roman tegula or tile. The tegula fragment is one relatively straight edge, suggesting that this may have been an original edge to the tile, whereas the rest of the surfaces and edges are highly abraded. Four shallow, probably 'combed' incised lines are visible on the underside of the tegula; no other decoration remains.
