A fragment of a copper-alloy Roman finger ring. Only the shoulders and bezel of the ring survive intact, the remainder missing due to old breaks. The shoulders are flat, oval shaped in section and expand to encompass the oval shaped bezel. The bezel contains a central S-coil motif either side of which are recessed fields filled with the remains of red enamel. Adam Daubney has done some research into Enamelled Romano-British Finger Rings, where he identifies a classification, which would make this example a Group 5 'Curves'. He also suggests this design is typical of East A…

An incomplete copper alloy finger ring, probably of Roman date. The hoop has a break in its centre and is squashed flat. The ring has a rectangular bezel with an oval recess in the centre of its outer face, which is filled with whitish, chalky material. The band is narrow and D-shaped in cross-section, becoming slightly wider where it joins the setting. There is also a raised ridge decorating the outer face at the point where the band joins the bezel. The surface of the metal is much corroded and the breaks well worn. This ring is not easy to place within Henig's Typology, but is …

an incomplete Roman copper-alloy finger ring dating to circa AD 100-200. The piece is virtually complete save for the missing setting. Old damange, means the bezel is almost split in two and the hoop is no longe attached at the bottom edge. The bezel is oval in plan with a recessed central area where the setting would have rested. The shoulders are triangular in plan, tapering from the edges of the bezel into the hoop. The hoop is plano-convex in section. The shoulders and hoop are undecorated. The underside of the bezel is flat and plain.

An incomplete copper-alloy and glass Roman finger ring. Only the outer part of the ring survives. The bezel is expanded, and its outer face has circular setting, 11.61mm in diameter, which holds the damaged remains of a pink/purple glass stone. To either side the shoulders taper inwards, each terminating in a break where the band would have joined them. The surface of the metal is corroded and the breaks are well worn. With its narrow band and prominent bezel this example fits best into Henig's (1974) Type XIII/ Guiraud's (1989) Type 4, which date to anywhe…

The extant shoulder consists of a narrowed, constricted section before it flares outwards. From here, the flared segment tapers inwards before terminating in an old break. An incomplete Roman copper-alloy finger ring dating to circa AD 43-410. The bezel is flat and rectangular in plan with an integrally cast copper-alloy setting in the form of a raised lozenge. The external face of the lozenge appears to carry some decoration in the form of two recessed elements but they are now heavily worn precluding identification. The walls of the lozenge are straight. The shoulders are wide, tapering gently inwards before giving way to a narrow circular-sectioned hoop, of which only a small stub survives emerging from one of the shoulders. The shoulders are undecora…
