Copper alloy and iron possible armour scale. A small sub-rectangular sheet metal plate, possibly shield-shaped with three corners clipped, with a large [3.3mm] square iron rivet pressed from behind where it is represented by a sand-encrusted mass of rust. This might be from Roman scale armour, though fabric reinforced with studs or scales was also used in medieval times. Copper alloy brooch. A large cast hinged Colchester derivative brooch, Mackreth ref. CD H 1.c. A tubular case is plain behind but heavily moulded on the front with three billeted bands standing proud on either wing [termed bead and reel by Mackreth] retaining an axis bar for a hinged pin [all but stub lost]. The wings are clasped by a humped D-section tapered bow with a central moulded longitudinal ridge and five pairs of moulded and billeted strands on either side of it, ascending diagonally.
