Copper alloy base silver denarius of Caracalla (AD 198-217), dating to AD 200 (Reece Period 10), PONTIF TR P III, Sol standing left, holding globe and spear. Mint of Rome. RIC IV, p. 217, no. 30. The coin does appear base, but silver denarii of this period can discolour because they were struck in debased silver. It is possible, however, that this is a contemporary copy.
