A gold Roman circular mount. In the centre of the mount in a raised Julio-Claudian bust, probably of Augustus. On the reverse is the concave reverse of the bust. It is likely that the gold has been rubbed over an object, possible a coin, that depicted the bust. Around the bust is a circle of raised dots. Next around this is a single raised, plain band outside of which is another ring of, this time larger, raised dots. The outer edge of the disc has suffered damage at the 2-5 o'clock and 8-9 o'clock positions.

A gold fragment of jewellery of suspected Roman-Early Medieval date. The fragment has a leaf-shaped gold plate onto which is soldered twisted wire and pellet decoration in the form of seven teardrops with pellets at the tip; these run in two outward-facing rows up the tapering length of the plate, with a final apical teardrop positioned at the tip and facing the opposite way. The broken end of the object retains part of a framed field which has an incised letter A, most likely the end of an inscription. Around the outside edge of the plate is a soldered border of twisted wire, which ha…

Description: A complete cast penannular finger ring made from a flat sheet of gold with rounded ends. The surface forms three parallel ribs running along the hoop: one along the central line and one either side. The hoop is distorted to sub-circular shape with the terminals twisting in opposite directions. Both terminals are rounded, one seemingly complete and one with a tapered terminal possibly suggesting minor loss. On both terminals the ribs reduce in appearance towards the terminal, seemingly from manufacture rather than wear. The interior of the hoop is plain and smooth. Dimens…

Two fragments of an incomplete gold, perhaps Roman, finger-ring; part of the hoop is missing. The longer fragment retains a section of hoop which is D-shaped in cross-section (being flat to the inside) and below the shoulders measures 7.5x2.1mm, narrowing to 4.7x1.3mm before expanding at a jagged break to 6.8x0.9mm. This section of the fragment has numerous diagonal scratch marks to the outer convex surface. A pair of small holes suggests this originally had openwork decoration. The shoulders are triangular in shape, narrow initially above the hoop (6.9x2.4mm) and expanding to 9.7x2…

A near complete, gold finger ring dating to the Late Roman Period c. AD 300-410. Description: Gold finger-ring, much distorted. The hoop consists of a rectangular sectioned strip of gold, to which has been soldered three strand of filigree which is now broken in a number of places. The filigree is beaded, but the beads are now very hard to distinguish, which is probably due to heavy wear. In the pair of channels between the filigree, a series of paired punched dots has been added as further decoration. In places, these dots have been punched close enough together that they run in…
