A Roman cast copper-alloy finger, probably from a statue or piece of monumental architecture, such as to hold an inscription in place. The human finger is life sized and broadly oval in cross-section. It is broken at the second joint with an old worn patinated break. The finger is extended but slightly curved and may be making a gesture. There are not any details on the joints but the nail is finely moulded, with the nail bed stepped down and the the squared cuticle, straight, slightly flared sides and the convex outer edge of the nail, which is set slightly back from the rounded …

Description: The hand survives to the wrist on the back and most of the palm side though an iregulalr sub-rectangular section of plate copper-alloy has broken away. The fingers have all been intentionally broken away past the first knuckle and the thumb where it joins the palm though the break here is more jagged. From the position of what remains of the fingers and thumb it appears the hand was partially closed perhaps in an oration stance or inteded to hold something…

Roman gilded copper alloy finger, probably part of a larger statue or to hold an inscription in place. The human finger is lifesized (for a large person) and broken just beyond the second joint with an old, patinated and worn, break. The details of the finger joints and nail are finely moulded. The nail bed is distinctly stepped down from the rest of the finger and the end section of finger appears to have been slightly bent inwards. There is a hint at the break that the second join may also have been slightly broken. Much of the original surface has been lost and with it probably som…
