A rim sherd from an early Roman platter (c. 1st century AD). It is of a crude triangular form with breaks that are fairly abraded. It is very shallowly curved in profile. The rim is thickened (10mm) compared to the extant body (5.5mm). There is an external depressed band below the rim. Internally there is a thick ridge below the rim, below which two thin ridges. The platter is in imitation of Gallo-Belgic forms (Helen Rees pers. comm. 24 May 2012). The fabric is fairly fine and sandy. It has dark-grey outer surfaces with a lighter core.
