Copper alloy object of uncertain function probably Roman in date.
It is linear in form, flat on the front with a central raised line on the reverse. The top half is in the shape of a vase (seen in plan), it then narrows for the lower half. Both ends appear broken. The lower terminal is beginning to curve before it is broken.
It is most likely some form of spear tip or fitting. A similar item was found at South Shields (p.216 no.740) and was described there as a rod.
