Broken and corroded copper alloy Roman trumpet brooch of Mackreth type TR.1.b.1 The Spring mechanism, pin, lower bow, foot, and catchplate are all missing. The trumpet-shaped head from which the brooch gets its name is plain, but is moulded around the periphery; with a projecting nib uppermost. Below the head, only a perpendicular loop remains. There is a moulded petalled knob on the upper bow which is flanked to its upper and lower sides by a group of three 360-degree moulded collars. Small Incomplete, copper alloy Colchester derivative rearhook Roman brooch. The spring, pin, and most of the catch-plate are missing. The rear of the left-hand wing (as viewed from the underside) has the characteristic witness marks of spring attachment. The hook at the head of the brooch that originally retained the chord is now just a stub. Heavy wear and corrosion inhibits the determination of any original decoration. Mackreth, D. F. Brooches in Late Iron Age and Roman Britain V1 (2011) p.60; comments that rearhook brooches were exclusively Icenian. Circa 1st century AD.

Incomplete corroded copper alloy single piece Roman Colchester brooch of Mackreth type 2. Half of the integral spring and pin are missing but the other half of the spring remains attached to the body by its original ligature and the chord passing under the hook. The tapering bow has tiny bilateral wings at its head and is plain and narrow. The catchplate is entirely missing from old damage and precludes narrowing the typology further. Circa 1st century AD.

Incomplete corroded copper alloy Roman trumpet brooch of Mackreth type 1.3a2 . The trumpet-shaped head has faint remnants of symmetrical moulded flutes on its upper surface, now badly degraded by corrosion. A flat-sided axially aligned semi-circular loop projects from the back of the head, through which the axis bar of the spring passes, with several of the spring loops remaining coiled bilaterally; but the pin itself is now missing. Just below the shoulder of the bow there is an oval central knob, with two crescentic grooves on its underside, one on its lower upper-face, and single g
