Ceramic building material. Four flat fragments of tile (a-d), all smoothed on one side and flat but pitted ?by raindrops suggesting laying out in the open air? On the other. Three fragments (a, c and d) are reduced with thick oxidised margins; the remaining fragment (b) is entirely oxidised and of paler orange fabric which includes occasional ground brick to length 5mm. The finder suggests this to come from the site of a villa, or at least from a thoroughly Romanised building. Suggested date: Roman, 43-410. Ceramic building material: tile or tegula. Oxidised sandy fabric, finely sanded on one side and smoothed on the other, from a flat tile with a single broad overhanging edge or rib. The tile was moulded with its ridged surface downwards, collecting sand from the surface on which it was shaped. Much of the rib is lost to subsequent abrasion.
