Copper alloy harness mount. Cast barrel-shaped plate with a central concavo-convex vulvate boss 3with longitudinal crease. A pair of integrally cast rounded pins of basal diameter 4mm and length 5.2mm project from the back, flanking the central hollow, and may be intended to fix the object in its setting. A trapezoid top loop bears a drilled hole of diameter 5mm, and would assist the suspension of the object. Suggested date: Early Roman, 43-200 Height: 27mm, Width: 30.2mm, Thickness (plate, clear of boss and pins): 2mm, Weight: 9.84gms

Copper alloy harness pendant. Cast plate of plano-convex section, resembling an inverted arrowhead with long curled barbs and a triangular tang, and with a small oval loop at right angles to its display plane. The design might be intended to resemble a swallow in flight; a small thickened triangular area lies to either side of the pointed end, and the loop springs from between the forks of the 'tail'. Other pendants of more clearly avian form are ascribed to the medieval period after 1150. Suggested date: Late Roman, 200-300 Height: 36.1mm, Width: 18.9mm, Thickness: 3.2mm, Weight: …

Copper alloy harness pendant. Cast heart-shaped plate with its cleft occupied by the springing of an oval loop at right angles to its display plane, and with incised nicks angled towards each other to either side. The base of the 'heart' becomes a short phallic member with a slightly elongated discoid glans. Probably from the decorative horse trappings of an auxillary cavalryman. The loop is now broken. Suggested date: Early Roman, 43-200. Length: 46mm, Width: 17.8mm, Thickness (clear of loop, maximum at glans): 4.4mm, Weight: 7.94gms

Copper alloy harness pendant. Cast sub-triangular or heart-shaped plate with part of a circular integrally cast suspension loop at right angles to the plane of its display face; the loop is broken as is the lower part of the plate. Copper alloy possible harness pendant fragment. Cast plate of irregular quatrefoil form with two stubs of a suspension loop rising from its larger lobes. A D-section member rises from the plate and is interpreted by the finder as a phallus with markedly pointed glans; the curvature of the shaft supports this identification, though if inverted the projecting member might equally resemble a vessel mount of swan neck form. However, the suspension loop probably serves to indicate which way up the object should be viewed. Suggested date: Later Roman, 200-300. Length: 21.5mm, Height: 2…

Copper alloy possible harness pendant, as identified by finder. Cast fragment of a loop with a curving side, narrowed top (lost, but indicated by a scar at the end of the loop of diameter 2mm), and paired oval plates occupied by circular borders filled with incised cross hatch; an incomplete vertical element separates the plates. This object would apparently depend for its suspension on a cross bar of only 2mm diameter, so a decorative rather than functional purpose appears credible. There may also be a relationship to lunate or pelta-shaped forms. Suggested date: Possibly Roman, 43-4…
