Oyster shell. Two large oyster shells: the larger a flat bottom half and the smaller a concavo-convex top half from different edible bivalves of the same species. The oyster shell sizes are larger than those encountered in medieval or post-medieval deposits, and the larger part of the accompanying pottery must suggest a Roman date, and probably the primary deposition of food waste. British oysters were an esteemed foodstuff in Roman times. Silver coin. Copy Denarius of Caracalla (188-217) Obverse description: Bust laureate draped and cuirassed right, wreath circles top of head. If a copy, may imitate RIC 4 part 1 no. 215a-216, of 210-213, but with extended legend. Obverse inscription: ANTONIN(VS) AVGVSTVS Reverse description: Liberalitas holding square object, possibly abacus, and cornucopia. Reverse inscription: LIBERALITAS AVGVS Cliff Reeves kindly identified this coin, and comments on its apparent light weight - though a small part is lost. Diameter: 19mm, Weight: 1.99gms, die axis: 6.

Obverse description: Bust diademed and draped right. Reverse description: Possibly blundered version of Roma seated facing holding victory (left) and standard (right).
