Copper alloy brooch. Cast hinged Colchester derivative brooch, Mackreth type CD H 4.d. Tubular plain wings clenched behind retain an axis bar for a hinged pin [lost]; rust stains may suggest an iron component hereabouts. An incised line runs diagonally across the front of either wing. The wings are clenched by a broad bow of stepped plano-convex section with a central billeted ridge flanked by a concave surface to either side at the top. The central ridge is cross-cut. Germanic, body AE, high Cu content, spring wire Fe, Fe axis still present. no pin or catchplate, foot end vertical incision to convert broken brooch into fingernail cleaner. Axis bar terminates in little ball ends, bow top with three ring-dots and little side incisions, one vertical groove, bottom with side incisions and one dot.
