Copper alloy brooch. Cast trumpet brooch, Mackreth type TR 1.b3. A plain trumpet head retains a six coil spring with a chord carried beneath it. A plain drum-shaped mid-bow moulding which does not pass all around the bow has a single moulded hollow above and below. The lower bow is plain, and tapers to a pedestal foot with a double collar above it, and with the stub of a catch plate behind it. Suggested date: Early Roman, 110-200

Lead weight. Cast weight of waisted or dumbbell form, resembling that of a cotton reel or bobbin, with a thick cylindrical shank between expanded plano-convex ends. Lightly patinated. Weights of this form have been noted in the East Riding at Newbald Lodge, and are occasionally reported from northern Lincolnshire. A Roman date is usually suggested; probably, as here, because of the predominantly Roman finds with which these seem to be associated. Their purpose remains unknown. Suggested date: Roman, 43-410
