Copper alloy with red and blue enamel Brooch. Umbonate Disc Brooch, as identified by finder. Cast concavo-convex plate with hinged pin and the stub of catch-plate extending beyond the back. A decorative scheme comprises an outer circumferential order of 14 triangles of which seven retain blue enamel, and an inner order of (probably) 14 smaller triangles, of which seven retain traces of red and blue enamel, alternating. Cast head with three coils of a spring, bow narrowing to a collar and acanthus-derived ornament, below which the bow assumes an angular profile and narrows; the stub of a catch-plate remains on the reverse. An open silver wire link of diameter 1.3mm is looped around the upper part of the bow. Heavily abraded and corroded. Suggested date: Early Roman, 100-150. Copper alloy, with red enamel and silver plating Brooch fragment. Half-Disc-and-Trumpet type, with a round central boss flanked by two smaller bosses on a field of red enamel decorating the half disc. A tapering bow bears the stub of a catch-plate on its back, and retains spots of silver plating. Heavily abraded. The trumpet head is lost. This type of brooch is not a common find, but the examples known are widely distributed. Suggested date: Early Roman, 50-200. Length: 22mm, Width: 13.8mm, Thickness (disc): 2.4mm, Weight: 1.90gms.

A complete cast copper-alloy trumpet-headed brooch in excellent condition. The flattened wing-like trumpet head has an integral chain loop. The wings have two vertical ribs at each end. Behind the wings is a hinge pin mechanism, which still retains the copper alloy pin. Midway down the bow is a small, decorated disc with a diameter of 8.4mm. Above the disc is a single transverse rib. Either side of the disc is a small lug and in the centre of the disc is a ring. The disc would have originally have been filled with enamel. An incomplete copper-alloy pin is hinged between two lugs by a copper-alloy axis bar. The bird has a arched neck and a heart-shaped tail. The head is undecorated.
