Small cast trumpet brooch, Mackreth type TR 2. 2b.An oval head with grooved border masks a cylindrical case through which passes an axis bar for a hinged pin [lost], which continues as a tensile top loop retained by a plain strip with butted ends. A constricted upper bow expands at a single moulding which does not pass all around the bow; there are three petals between this and a half disc which again does not pass all around the bow. A plain oval trumpet head with a short top lug and linear border conceals an integral loop projecting behind it for the spring [lost]. The bow is constricted below the head, expanding at a simple moulding which passes around the bow, from which three petals project on the front to clasp a central disc which is again carried around the bow. Drawn wire top loop retaining a separate ring of diameter6.8mm with butted ends to its band, and retained within a cast and perforated rectangular block through which the loop passes. The block bears three tiny rhomboid lozenges of mid blue enamel. The enamel may suggest this to be from the top of a headstud brooch of Mackreth type Headstud 9.
