Copper alloy and iron knee brooch with rounded front, Mackreth type KNEE Br. 2.b.2. A flat semi-circular head plate with paired semicircular lugs behind at its edges retaining an iron axis bar and a four coil spring, met by a hollow concavo-convex bow which is rounded on its outer face, and which tapers sharply towards a flightly flared D-section foot with the stub of a catch plate behind it. The type is strongly linekd to the later Roman military, with more than half the examples reported by Mackreth (2011, vol. 1, page 190) from towns or forts. Suggested date: Roman, probably Later …

Copper alloy with iron and enamel Stud. Sub-spherical or onion shaped stud with a hollow back with central collar of diameter 7.5mm retaining the stub of an iron pin of diameter 4.8mm. The outer surface bears twenty eight sunken compartments retaining brick red enamel. These comprise a basal circumferential ring, twenty six triangular compartments, mostly ascending in series of three, and a circular apical cell which has a central spot of a yellowish tint, either intrusive or a solitary element of a different coloured enamel. Cast plain oval trumpet shaped head with a central backward facing loop retaining a copper alloy axis bar with burred ends and a six coil spring with chord behind and the stub of a pin. The bow narrows below the head, expanding again towards a simple moulding above a disc which runs all around the bow with a further, probably double, moulding below it. This is considered likely to be a fragment of an iron loop with a thick copper alloy sheath, whence the iron core has been lost to decay.
