A silver-plated and copper alloy cored contemporary copy of a silver Roman denarius of the Roman Republic, dating to c. 148 - 100 BC (Reece period 1). Reverse type possibly depicting a quadriga (four-horse chariot) going right. The top half of the coin has been broken away. Mint illegible.
The overall dimensions are as follows: 18.09mm in diameter, 1.61mm in thickness and 1.45g in weight.

The debased nature of this coinage meant that is remained in circulation for an extended period into the 3rd century AD so are most often found in very worn condition or with bankers' assay marks.
Probably RRC 544/18. Diameter 17mm, Weight 2.68g.
