The leg and foot from a broken cast copper-alloy Roman Trumpet brooch (1st/2nd century AD). The break seems to have occurred just above a button at the junction of bow and foot. At the break the bow is broadly plano-convex in cross-section. There is a transverse ridge above and below the button. The button itself is broadly rectangular and slightly convex, with a concavity on the lower surface. It is decorated with a central transverse ridge created due to transverse grooves above and below. This zone has been bent upwards as a result of the old damage that has broken the brooch.

A complete cast copper-alloy pin of probable Roman date. It has a biconical head (max. dia.: 11.2mm), with a groove below at the junction with the shank. The shaft below the groove is slightly expanded/everted (Dia.: 4.7mm). The shaft is circular in cross-section with a central swelling (Th.: 4.0mm). The tip has been bent to one side, first shallowly, then through ninety degrees. As Geake (2001, 39) notes, both Roman and Middle Saxon pins can have swellings on their shafts and can be bent; they are therefore difficult to tell apart. Although early-medieval pins often have collars the…

A slightly corroded bowl from a probable Roman cast copper-alloy spoon (6.2mm deep). The bowl is pear shaped in form, making it a Type 2 spoon in Crummy's (1983, 69) classification. It is plain with some abrasions to the rim and some accretions and losses of patina as a result of corrosion. At the narrow end are the vestiges of the junction with the handle, triangular in cross-section. The artefact has a variable grey-green patina with the corrosion product coming through light green. The bowl can be compared with one illustrated in Crummy (1983, 70; ref.: 2012).

A cast copper-alloy Roman T-shaped brooch of initial type dated to later 1st to mid-2nd century AD. The brooch survives quite well, only having suffered some post-depositional damage and the loss of its pin. The head has tubular wings, each with a terminal ridge. There is a further ridge either side of the wide head. The axis bar is largely obscured by the wings, but would appear to be made from iron judging by orange corrosion product both at the wing terminals and within the pin slot. The pin is missing. The upper bow emerges from the wings initially at a width of c. 13.1mm before t…
