Seven sherds of Roman pottery, all dating to the fourth century:
1. Base sherd of an Oxford colour coated ware vessel, 36mm diameter weighing 15.7gms.
2. Rim sherd of shelly ware measuring 50mm long, 10mm wide and weighing 20.2gms.
3. Rim sherd of a ware with small stone inclusions measuring 30mm long, 5mm wide and weighing 8.8gms.
4. Four body sherds from a shelly ware vessel weighing 40.3gms.

A base sherd from a Roman vessel reused as a spindle whorl. The fabric of the pottery is sandy and has been fired bright orange on the outside with some of the grey core remaining internally. The sherd appears to come from the base of the vessel as there is a slight lip, or raised pedestal base element on one side. The pottery sherd has been pierced to allow the spindle to fit in.
The spindle whorl measures 39.04mm diameter and is 10.53mm thick. It weighs 18.6gms. The pottery sherd dates from the 3rd - 4th century.

A Roman pottery scatter recovered from the edge of a field after ploughing. Seven/eight seperate vessels are represented and while the majority are simple domestic wares one fragment of Oxford Whiteware Mortaria was recovered.

A rim sherd from a Roman vessel. The sherd is in a hard, off-white fabric with sparse red-brown inclusions and a dark brown slip, possibly Cologne colour-coated ware. This is a rim sherd from a beaker-like vessel and dates from the second to third centuries AD.

A handle from a Roman flagon or amphora in an orange buff sandy fabric. The handle has a deep groove down its length and is right anguled. The angles of the breaks suggests the vessel had a straight neck and sloping shoulders.

A Roman pottery body sherd of Samian (AD43-260). The sherd is from a small wheel thrown bowl with moulded decoration in the form of a row of ovulus then a beaded line and then a double line. Orange fabric with very fine inclusions and a dark orange glossy slip.
