Copper alloy button. Die-stamped plano-convex composite uniform button, from the uniform of the Lincolnshire Imperial Yeomanry. A central heraldic shield bears the Cross of St George with a central lis, and the legend LINCOLNSHIRE IMPERIAL YEOMANRY around the edge in a Garter-type band. A drawn wire loop passes into the separate flat back plate. The unit was raised in 1901 to provide mounted soldiers to fight Dutch South African guerrillas in the latter stages of the Boer War. Cast annular biconvex fishing weight, with a sharp circumferential aris between its halves, a bevelled central aperture, and with eight moulded hemispherical bosses equidistantly spaced around either side. A drawn wire copper alloy loop projects from the edge. Lightly patinated. This is a modern weight for a fishing line, of a massy type more usually associated with coastal or inshore fishing. Copper alloy lid. Concavo-convex probably pressed or die-stamped circular lid. The exterior surface bears a finely imprinted decorative motif of overlapping close-set compass-drawn lines, reminiscent [to this reporter] of designs drawn with the mechanical toy from the 1960s known as Spirograph. This design, too, was rendered with mechanical aid. The interior bears traces of white metal plating, and has a broadened flat rim. Suggested date: Modern, 1900-1930. Cast unusually thick square section band, thickened and slightly expanded at its bezel which appears to bear a small oval panel with the motif of a 'tick', as used by a popular brand of sportswear. Traces of gilding or of gold paint appear on both the inner and outer surfaces of the band. The diameter of the ring could suggest its use by a child, so it might be a toy.
