Copper alloy unidentified object. A narrow straight-sided strip with a drilled rivet hole of diameter 1.7mm towards one end and possibly broken across a further hole at the other. The rivet hole may hint at a medieval date. A function associated with a strap or as a strap fitting might be implied by its narrow form. Copper alloy unidentified object. A rectangular sheet metal plate with a series of closely spaced [8 per cm] fine grooves of length 15mm extending from one straight edge, and with faint traces of grooves and a split in the opposite side. Probably for a craft usage. Marks of this form on bones have been associated with the making of pins, on ‘pinner’s bones’, though at a larger scale. Similar close spacing is also seen on comb teeth, so this object might have figured in the cutting of comb teeth – small one-piece bone combs for beards and moustaches are known fro…

An unidentified object which is a possible fragment from a lead vessel or pot of uncertain date. The fragment is irregular but broadly triangulat in shape and sub oval in plan. One surface is convex and the other slightly convex. It is slightly thicker at one end, with old and worn breaks on the non "rim" sides. The rim itself is thicker than the rest of the fragment suggesting that it comes from a curved vessel. The outer surface has a coarse surface with a grey coloration with occasional brown and lighter grey patches across the…

A complete copper alloy ball of probable Post-Medieval date (AD 1550-1900). The object is composed of a sphere of copper-alloy, with dark green glossy patina and minor surface pitting.  The object’s function is unclear but could be a Gaming Piece or Ball Bearing. Diameter: 12.4mm, Weight: 8.60 g The metal is dark green with a smooth patina. Due to the lack wear marks, it seems more likely that this might be a Post-Medieval gaming piece.  Compare: BH-DBB686, NLM-56E8F6, SUR-2CE255 and SWYOR-CF23D7.

An unidentified, copper alloy artefact of unknown date, Roman to Post Medieval, AD 43 - 1700. It is a strip of sheet copper alloy, which is broken at both ends. The long edges are gently curved so the strip is wider in the middle. There is a near right angle bend near each end. These are probably original, because the decoration on the centre of the strip stops short of the bends. The decoration is a pair of simple wide longitudinal grooves. The strip is 13.5mm long, 6mm wide and 6.6mm thick. It weighs 0.4g. It has a bright bluish green patina and is smooth and glossy.
