A thin, incomplete, unidentified silver component. The item is semi-circular in plan, and retangular in cross section. It appears to be incomplete, with clean and linear break points on the two ends of the circular frame suggesting it has been cut, perhaps before it was intended to be melted down. On what is presumably the front facing surface of the component, there are two parrallel grooves which run along the circumference of the inside edge. The depth of the grooves is not uniform and at points the recesses are too faint to be visible. This may be the result of wear. The…

Copper alloy unidentified object fragment. Cast terminal from an object; a lentoid or ogival plate with opposed pointed spurs projecting from its base, broken from a continuing stem close to the spurs. The dull back of the object might suggest it had been set as a mount on or into a flat surface. The display side bears fine longitudinal lines and the stamped legend: PATENT. Lead alloy and iron unidentified object fragment. Cast concavo-convex object moulded as the top of the head or frontlet of an antlered stag, with the stubs of two naturalistically modelled antlers rising from its crown. A possible garland of oak leaves may be represented round the base of the object as it survives. Rust and the possible relict of an iron object appear in the hollow base, which is broken all around. This object appears to have become detached from a figurative ornament of venereal [i.e. relating to hunting] interest, possibly a themed table decoration or similar. Severa…

Protruding from the base of the cone is the remains of an iron shank, which is sub-square in cross-section. The cone itself is mostly covered in a dark green compact patina, although this is marked by paler green pit…

A fragment from an unidentified object of uncertain date, but most likely Post-Medieval to Modern. The object consists of a horizontal section of c. 20mm long, which is flat along the bottom edge and convex along the top edge. This is lozenge-shaped in cross-section. From its centre spring two 'stems' of similar thickness, both circular in cross-section, which separate towards the top to form a V shape. One of these is c. 10mm long measured from the point at which they separate and ends in a break; the other is broken off at the separation point. The object is mostly cove…

An incomplete copper alloy unidenitifed object, that looks like a pin except the shaft is twisted, and there is a small projection to one side. It is perhaps part of a bigger object of Post Medieval date, AD 1600 - 1900. The object has a spherical head, with a shank of square cross-section that is twisted. The shaft is truncated by an oblique cut. Also projcting to one side of the sphere is a small square stub of a bar, or perhaps a casting sprue. There is a similarly sized scar on another face of the sphere, at right angles to the first. This could suggest that the ball is a corner el…

Unidentified and incomplete copper-alloy object, probably of post-medieval date. It’s somewhere between oval and D-shaped when viewed with either of the two opposing flat surfaces face-on. One edge is a worn transverse break. It is rough and uneven but very broadly straight. The flat surfaces are not parallel, but closer together at the side with this broken edge. In other words, the object is thinner here and thicker opposite. Beyond the break, the edge between these surfaces is convex, both transversally and circumferentially. It naturally expands in breadth from the thinner en…
