A Medieval copper alloy strap fitting, probably dating to c. AD 1200-1500. The fittign consists of an undecorated bar, plano convex in cross section and with two integral rivets projecting from the reverse. A rearward facing hook, with unelaborated sub-rectangular terminal projects longitudinally from the base of the bar. Dimensions: length 35.5mm; width 7.5mm; thickness 7.1mm; weight 6.29g. Cf. a similar example published by Egan & Pritchard (1991: 155-6, no. 728), excavated in a 13th-14th century context.

A medieval (1230 - 1400) copper alloy rectangular strap loop with internal projections. The frame is trapezoidal in shape and square/ rectangular in cross-section. The outside edge has a large central conical knop and a smaller knop at either end, as an extension from the arms of the frame. The two opposed internal projections are triangular in shape and appear about two thirds of the way along these arms, nearest the narrower long edge (which has a slight concave line to the outside edge). The strap loop is 21.3mm long, with shortest internal length 15.9mm, 17.3mm wide, 3.4mm max.thic…

A Medieval copper alloy strap fitting in the form of a swivel dating to circa AD 1100-1300. The swivel is circular in plan and oval in profile, with a square sectioned copper alloy arm projecting from the centre of each of the sides. Both of the arms are broadly square in plan, with rounded corners at the ends terminals. The bar is slightly narrowed as it passes through the rounded swivel. The arms then expand to the terminals which are pierced with circular incisions. The body of the swivel is decorated with a repeatign pattern of recessed lines which are placed at a diagonal angle…

A copper alloy strap fitting; an S shaped "snake" belt fastener of Post Medieval date, AD 1550 - 1900 or later. It is S shaped and zoomorphic, having the head of a snake at one end; the other end is broken. No decoration on the body of the snake is visible. There is a copper alloy loop, perhaps a link from a chain, round the neck of the complete terminal. The fastener displays a rough, dark green patina. It is 23.5mm long, 12.2mm wide and 3mm thick. 2.38g. Similar examples are illustrated in Gordon Bailey's Detector Finds 3 (1997), pages 20-21. Bailey states that the 'snake form belt …

A copper alloy S-shaped fastener or strap fitting, probably dating from the early Post-medieval period, AD 1550 - 1650, but of a style also used in the 18th century. The terminals are zoomorphic, depicting the heads of dogs, or snakes. In the centre of the buckle is a raised moulding consisting of two transverse collars flanked on either side by a group of three pointed-oval leaves. The decoration appears to be on both faces, but the object is so worn this is hard to determine. The buckle has a smooth light brown green patina and is exceedingly worn, especially on the necks of the anim…
