A copper alloy post medieval bull ring. Cast D-shaped, oval-section loop comprising a curved bar and a straight hinged arm. The loop is expanded and flattened at both its ends; one for a hinged junction with one end of the bar, and the other for insertion through a slot in the other end of that bar. The latter terminal bears an aperture of 6 mm in diameter, which would permit the ring to be locked. A set of wrought iron shackles comprising a barrel padlock, fetter, swivel element and iron chain links of suspected post Medieval date. The iron barrel padlock is complete, weighs 700g and has a cylindrical case 48.5mm in diameter. The shackle is circular (98.3mm external diameter) and hinged to an integral lug at one end of the case. The other end of the shackle terminates in a semi-circular collar which holds a flat plate which slots into the opposite end of the case. This plate has three barb springs of the lock mechanism. A corroded iron fetter probably from a set of Romano-British shackles. The object is of penannular form with recurving ‘eyes’ at the terminals (97 by 87.7mm). In profile the shackle is concave; a median band of rectangular section is enclosed within. Retained in each eye is a loop, one circular (ext. dia.: c. 73mm, int. dia.: c. 52mm), the other an elongated oval, bent at an obtuse angle (L.: c. 93mm, W.: c. 42mm).
