A complete Medieval copper alloy mirror case, dating to c AD 1300-1400. It is circular, made up of two matching plates, or layers, one on top of the other, held together at a hinge consisting of a double lug on the edge of one layer and a single lug or loop on the other, with an axis bar through. On the opposite edge of the circumference is a similar arrangement, these two sets of lugs now free of one another, presumably the point at which the case could be opened. There was possibly a pin to hold the case closed. On the edge of the upper layer …

A near complete Medieval (c. AD 1270-1350) robust cast copper alloy mirror case. This consists of two matching circular hinged discs that are fused closed from corrosion product which would have originally protected a mirror/
Both discs are circular in form with straight sided walls. One disc has two D-shaped lugs projecting from one sides of the disc. One of these slots between parallel lugs on the other disc creating a hinge held together by a copper alloy axis bar running through holes pierced through all three lugs. The opposite sits closely…

A Medieval copper alloy mirror case. Only one of the case's discs has survived. It is roughly circular in plan with barely discernible remnants of lugs or projections opposite each other. The front, once decorated, is completely worn. The back has the remnants of an inwards facing rim that projects down at a right angle and forms an internal hollow chamber into which the mirror would be mounted. The glass has not survived. The plate is bent along the central axis.

Fragment of a medieval copper-alloy mount, or perhaps part of a mirror case. It is a thin sheet of metal which retains about forty to fifty percent of an abraded and fragmentary circular edge. Some smaller extant fragments appear to be nearly completely severed and are perhaps adhering with an adhesive. The missing fragments are lost to irregularly-shaped worn breaks.
It is decorated on one face with a large incised or engraved voided cross pattée. The lateral sides of the opposing arm pairs are continuous double grooves which cross each other in the centre. The outward-facing …

Part of one half of a medieval copper-alloy mirror case. It is circular, 31mm in diameter, with a flange around the edge 3.3mm thick. Within the flanged inner face is a thin grey coating, with a patch of white corrosion in one part of the angle that probably represents the cement originally holding the glass. The flat outer face is decorated with grooves made up of punched dots, although detail is unclear as the surface looks like it has been dissolved away, with bare metal in places. The grooves form a central simple cross within a circular border, with an L shape in each an…
