An incomplete copper alloy medallion or pendant, dating to the Modern period (AD 1800-1900).  The medallion is circular in plan and sub-rectangular in cross section. The obverse is decorated in high relief and consists of a horizontal trapezoidal base and then three rhombus shapes diagonally radiating from the base and descending in size. This creates a sub-triangular decoration. Above this are incised lines radiating outwards to the triangular decoration, most likely representing sun-rays. A corroded and incomplete pewter medallion commemorating the capture of Portobello on the 21st November 1739, by Admiral Edward Vernon (1684-1757), using only six ships. The obverse depicts Admiral Vernon with hat to the left with outstretched hand under inscription [DOM BLASS], receiving the sword of the defeated admiral Blas de Lezo kneeling in front of him; Sir Chaloner Ogle behind holding scepter. The reverse is largely illegible but probably depicts the scene of the capture of Cartagena. No legends are readible.
