Silver-gilt hollow pin head with an incomplete silver pin protruding from the head. The pin head has been cast, hollow, from silver gilt. It is spherical with two horizontal bands dividing the head into two hemispheres. Each hemisphere is decorated with filigree ornament, which forms three circles. Within each circle there is a further three circles within, forming a trefoil. At the centre of each trefoil is a knop. A fragment of copper alloy pin. The head and stub of the shaft only. The head is hollow and formed of two hemispherical sections. The top section has a band of five small domes around its girth with a sixth at the top in the centre. A cast copper alloy head of a probably dress or hair pin dating to the post medeival to modern period (c.AD 1700-1850). The object is flat and sub-triangular in shape with a lobe on one side which would have connected to the pin. An intricate design has been stamped into the plate metal, consisting of three six petalled flowers surrounded by eight smaller circular, dotted devices. The edges of the object are also decorated with impressed dots or circles. The object has an overall gold colour with light brown and green patina in places.

The upper portion of a pin is retained in situ on the reverse, adhered at right angles to the disc plate. The lateral pin adjoining to the decorative head is similar to 'hat pins'. An incomplete Early Medieval copper alloy pin, probably dating to c. AD 700-1000. The surviving section of the pin consists of the head and a short length of the shank, truncated by an old break. The head is globular in form, with a single moulded collar marking the junction between the head and the shaft, the latter circular in cross section. The head is decorated with two bands of punched ring and dot decoration, with a further punch at the apex. Length 18.6mm; diameter 8.2mm; Weight 2.46g. cf.
