The object is a cast iron doorstop, in the shape of a horse and is Victorian in age. The obverse of the horse faces west, the object has a glass eye which is coloured blue, and has unfortunately sustained some damage but is still recognisable. The object also appeared to once have a black coloured applied patina, which is now missing but can still be seen slightly in places. The horse appears to have slight decoration around its 'harness' and 'saddle' areas, as well as 'hair' on its mane and tail, all this accompanied with the glass eye and previous patina suggests that is was a well …

Lead doorstop. Cast weight in the form of a lion seated with its maned head lifted above its forepaw and its hindquarters contracted, with some features hollowed behind. An integrally cast base comprises a thick basal strip with a sub-rectangular knop at either end which would have given three-sided support to the object. Patinated and bent. The maned lion in repose was a popular symbol of British imperial power throughout the 19th century. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1800-1900.
Length: 102.7mm, Height: 77mm, Thickness (maximum overall): 23mm. Exceeds 500gms in weight.
