Probable crested blade from the beginnings of a long blade core, of pale patinated mottled grey flint with extensive iron scrapes and spots from contact with agricultural implements, a prominent ridge has been formed by direct percussion to elongate the first blade removal from the core, the blade is quite thick, probably semi-hard hammer struck (uncertain, as the bulb of percussion is missing, an ancient transverse break just below where the bulb would be, this break was probably at the point of striking this blade from the core (a common error in making blades) to create two flake s…

A flint crested bladelet of probable Mesolithic date (c. 10,000-4000 BC). The bladelet has been made on a tertiary flake with the flint being a mottled light to dark brown colour. Part of the platform is retained as is the low bulb. Three or four long flake scars are present on the dorsal surface, with a small area of cresting towards the distal end. There is possibly a small area of retouch on one edge close to the proximal end. There are two small areas of modern damage.

Mesolithic (Early) to Mesolithic (Late) crested blade, 26mm long, 7mm wide, 5mm thick and 1g in weight. Very small crested blade from a blade core presumably to make small blades for microliths. The flint is translucent light caramel brown that is turning light grey with patination. A slight Siret fracture as the piece has shattered through the centre so only half remains.

Palaeolithic (Upper) to Neolithic (Later) crested blade, 35mm long, 11mm wide, 8mm thick and 3.5g in weight. Small but broken crested blade that is made on a translucent light caramel brown flint that is turning light grey all over through patination. The dorsal face has been extensively worked but two areas of white opaque patination suggests reuse of the material.

Palaeolithic (Upper) to Neolithic (Later) crested blade, 36mm long, 11mm wide, 6mm thick and 3.2g in weight. Small crested blade that is made on a caramel brown flint that has turned light blue all over through patination. Typical crested blade with central ridge that has been bifacially worked. The right lateral edge has also recieved some retouch, so it's likely the piece was utilised as a scraper after removal.

Two complete flint 'crested blades' of Mesolithic date (10,000-4,000 BC). The smaller blade has a trace of cresting at its distal end. Both blades are heavily patinated white on their surfaces while internally the flint is a greyish-blue in colour, typical of flints from this area. Large blade: 60.7mm L x 18.3mm W x 7.7mm T. 8.2 grams. Smaller blade: 41.5mm L x 14.2mm W x 6.4mm T. 3.3 grams.

A crested blade of translucent brown flint with spreading blue white patina. There are stepped and hinged flake scars from opposing directions. After the flake was removed to rejuvenate the core it was harvested from a flint scatter and retouched through the patina. A possibly Later Mesolithic discard was reused in perhaps The Neolithic or more recently. An oblique distal facet has been shallowly retouched as an end scraper and the left margin has been serrated from the ventral side semi-abruptly.Butler(2005) illustrates a crested blade on page 87, fig 31, 10.

A soft hammer struck twisted blade with broadly parallel dorsal ridges and a triangular section. There is a short step fracture truncated by the right margin but the other removals look feathered. There has been semi-abrupt retouch on the right ventral margin, perhaps to thin the proximal end for hafting. The right oblique margin has been ventrally retouched. The scars are glossy and a distal thermal cortical facet is dark red. These characteristics along with the colour of the flint, which is tan brown with cream flecks may be due to deliberate heat treatment of the core to improve the …

A crested blade of dark brown flint with a little pebble cortex on the distal tip. The proximal end shows small flake scars of platform preparation and there are some wavy ridges from previous bladelet or small flake removals. On the left margin are traces of use with a short oblque abruptly retouched end scraper and a finely retouched edge seen from the ventral side. Butler(2005) illustrates a crested blade on page 120, fig. 47, 8.

A grey and cream mottled flint crested blade from a lightly rolled pebble, judging by the remaining cortex on the distal end. There is a natural frost (thermal) spalled surface on the left dorsal margin. The right medial margin is invasively retouched and the opposite ventral surface has been thinned to a comfortable notch. The stout triangular section suggests that the retouch was for some sort of side-scraper after thoughtfully and boldly reworking a piece of debitage retaining good skill levels. The re-use may have been near contemporary with the discard of the core waste.Butler(20…

A crested blade of cream, translucent and slightly coarse chert. The proximal end has snapped off. There are many dorsal truncated flake scars, approaching from several directions, suggesting a carefully curated core. The upper facet is flat and the surface is nearly completely shiny with dimples almost ground out. It appears that the core was made from a recycled ground axe. At the edge of this surface is a hard hammered cone; perhaps produced whilst quartering the axe. 3 lines of semi-invasive retouch and diffuse gloss indicate re-use of this core debitage. Butler(2005) illustrates …

A crested blade of great thickness. The chert is coarse grey/ brown flecked and opaque. Flake scars on the dorsal surface are truncated by others from different direcctions and indicate a core at the point of exhaustion with platforms of opportuity being exploited with no futher forward planning. For this removal it was not the end, with on an acutely profiled edge near the proximal end, a line of disimilar flakework; some semi abrupt and one twisted and invasive removal, worked from either side where necessary in order to produce a slightly serrated but unwavering knife edge.
