Medieval belt hook; cast copper alloy strap mount with hook, of possible 13th – 15th century date. The mount is a simple bar of roughly D-shaped cross section with two integral rivets. Below the second rivet, the bar curves out forwards and is then curled back on itself to form a large hook. There is a single moulded horizontal ridge across the point between the bar and the hook. It seems likely that this mount was intended for attachment to a strap to allow a second object to be suspended from the hook. Cast cu-alloy belt hook in shape of a snake. While the obverse shows a pattern resembling eyes and scales, the reverse is ribbed and looks like that of an earthworm. It was probably part of a military belt.

Cast copper alloy belt hook in the form of a snake which would have hooked onto fitments at the end of the belt on a military uniform. The snake’s body is decorated with moulded scales and pellets for eyes on the upper body and moulded lines and an incised mouth on the underbelly. The body of the snake, which is 7.6 mm wide, tapers towards the head, which is 6 mm wide, in one direction, and towards the end of the tail, which is 3 mm wide, in the other. The snake’s body is decorated with scales and the head has a beak-like mouth, making it look like a duck, and a pellet for an eye within a recessed hole.
