A rim sherd of a ceramic amphora dating to the Roman period, c. AD 43-250. The sherd is roughly rectangular in plan and drop-shaped in profile. Handmade from a distinctive thick oxidised gritty fabric. The external fabric is a pale-buff pink colour with abundant grey and brown grit inclusions of <1mm. The internal fabric is a dull grey colour with these same inclusions. The breaks are well worn. A pottery fragment comprising one side of the neck and part of handle from a large Roman amphora, probably a Dressel 20 or related type. The fabric is hard, gritty, light brown to buff coloured with a slightly greyish core and tempered with coarse sand and occasional larger iron and calcite inclusions. The handle was around 47mm in diameter and the neck aperture would have had an internal diameter of around 80mm. All sides of the fragment have very abraded breaks.

A fragment of Roman amphora handle probably from a Dressel 20 amphora dating from the first half of the second century. The handle has part of the stamp [LI]VNI.M / [MEL]ISS[I.P] of the 'Two Iunii Melissi', both the masculine and feminine form name appears on the stamp and it probably belonged to a firm owned by a husband and wife, or a brother and sister, they were active from AD 120-160 in Baetica near the modern-day city of Seville, Spain.
