Copper alloy brooch, Colchester derivative type with Polden Hill variant spring attachment. Missing foot with catchplate, spring, pin. The spring was held by a rear hook and by enclosed wing ends, 6mm wide - these contain an iron-like corrosion, but it does not react to a magnet. The wings have a single angled groove and five grooves at the terminals, with slight notching of some of the intervening narrow ribs. The bow has a slightly convex back and rounded front, and a stront crest at the top in profile. It tapers to a smal;l foot knob. A copper alloy Roman bow brooch fragment of Colchester derivative Polden Hill (flat wing ends type, West Midlands), cf. Mackreth 2011, 4.c. pg. 72 Plate 46. Only the head of the brooch survives and the spring and pin are missing. There appears to be a central zig-zag line of decoration down the centre of the bow, but much of the patina is chipped and corroded, hiding most of the details. An incomplete damaged and misshapen copper alloy La Tene III ‘Nauheim’ derivative brooch of 'Winchester' style (Hattatt 1987, 21). Overall length 60.6mm, maximum width of bow 7.2mm and thickness of bow 0.9mm. Weight 2.69g. The brooch was cast in one piece and then wrought. The pin and most of the spring are missing due to an old break. The spring, when complete, would probably have had four coils and an internal chord. A Medieval brooch, much distorted, with a small break in the frame. The frame is decorated with notches on its front surface to create the impression of twisted wire. The pin is intact. It is sword-shaped, and has a lozenge shape in cross section. The front surface is decorated with two twisted wavy lines. The brooch is silver and dates from the fourteenth century. Early Roman cast copper-alloy zoomorphic Dragonesque brooch, incomplete as the tail is missing and also the pin. A crudely made example with angular edges, unlike most others this has a reversed 'S' shape. The reverse is flat with many parallel scratch marks which probably derive from the movement of the pin.
