Copper alloy brooch. Cast Colchester brooch, Mackreth type C 3.3. Short plain wings mask a three coiled spring with a chord held by a backward pointing hook which projects from the back of the wings. The wings are at the top of a narrow bow with rounded front and facetted back which tapers to a plain foot [catch plate lost]. Suggested date: Late Iron Age, 25-50.

Copper alloy brooch. Copper alloy brooch of flat, enamelled disc (sexfoil) type, Mackreth Type British Plate 2.b. A circular plate has what Mackreth describes as a hexagon with concave sides with a lobe extending out from each corner and ending in a pellet, all in the same degree of relief. The hexagon is filled with brick red enamel with a central circular pellet. There are slight traces of white material in the field between the lobed hexagon and the outer rim. Tubular wings open behind retain a spring of four or more coils on an axis bar passing between pierced plates at the ends of the head, with a rearward pointing hook above it.AD section bow clasps the wings, with a central billeted gutter which ends at a pair of lentoid bosses; the lower part of bow and catch plate are lost. Suggested date: Roman, AD 80-120.

Copper alloy brooch. Cast Polden Hill brooch, Mackreth type CD PH 6.a1, with distinctive features suggesting it was made by the same craftsman as Mackreth 2011 pl. 51 no. 12010. A sheet metal cylindrical spring case clenched behind retains a coiled copper alloy spring; it is presumed an axis bar and ends to the cylinder have been lost; the end of the spring which would form the pin protrudes from the back of the case. A cast copper-alloy penannular brooch with pseudo-zoomorphic terminal each bearing a double-scrolled motif with red enamel inlay. The finely cut, circumferential grooving only extends half-way around the circumference. The pin was cast with moulding around its junction with the ring. .

Plain curved wings - if decorated, only the relict of a terminal band appears at one end only - with a backward pointing hook above them, formerly grasping a spring (lost), Mackreth (2011) type CD RH ?4Kc.
