A fragment of a copper-alloy early medieval (early Anglo-Saxon) flat annular brooch. Around 1/2 of the original brooch survives. The hoop is rectangular in cross-section and there are no obvious signs of decoration, although the surface is worn and corroded.  Penn and Brugmann (2007) place annular brooches within their phases FA2 to FB, which correspond to the chronological date range of c.AD 480 to c.550. Without evidence of a pin fitting this cannot be further refined (decoration appears to bear little relation to chronology and distribution).
