Complete subannular finger-ring with hollow cast lobed bezel reset with pear-shaped facetted blue stone, in a cut related to the rose cut. The stone is extensively scratched and nibbled around the girdle, it appears to be cracked. It does not match the bezel setting which is also very rubbed. The original bezel is likely to have been four lobed, and there is a secondary border of eight crescent shaped indentations. It is unclear what would have been set within this bezel in its first iteration. The stone has not been tested, but is likely to be a sapphire.

The ring is composed of three composite sections. It has a wide band with a rectangular cross-section which tapers to wider and thicker shoulders close the inset gemstone. An incomplete gold penannular ring dating to the late Bronze Age (c.1000-800BC).
The ring has been manufactured from a sub-circular copper alloy bar over, which a thin sheet of gold has been applied and hammered flat, thus giving the appearance of being made of solid gold. It has been decorated with silver, or silver rich gold wire, which covers the ring in a continuous spiral giving a striped effect. The stripes are extremely thin and measure about 0.8mm in maximum width, whilst the gold sheet is approximately 0.25mm thick (measured at the damaged terminal). The gap b…

The object is a Medieval gold finger ring. The ring has a slender hoop which has been distorted in plan. This distortion was probably due to plough damage, as it was found within the plough soil. The loop has a 'D' shaped section which slightly expands towards the bezel. The bezel is oval in plan and is set with a cabochon setting. Jon Radley (Keeper of Geology, Warwickshire Museum) commented the setting may be polished quartz, but this could not be confirmed unless a destructive analysis was carried out. A small, integral, transverse rectangular ridge decorates either side of …
