This is a Scottish hammered silver twenty pence of Charles I (1625-49). As an example of the third (Falconer) Scottish coinage issue, the date may be refined to 1637-1642. The obverse has the crowned bust left with 'xx' in the field behind the bust and a pellet on the inner circle. The reverse has a crown over a thistle. The coin is in very poor condition with a small square section piercing through the bust with two radial cracks from that point. The rim is further degraded by clipping and split at the 08:30 position.

This is a silver hammered penny of Charles I (1625-1649). Based on the reverse pattern, this coin is from the Tower mint. The obverse had the crowned bust left with 'I' behind, now only showing the 'I'. The reverse has an almost round shield with a scroll garniture and a mintmark of two pellets, as with the obverse, there is no inner circle. That combination places this coin as being the Tower mint under the King. The coin has suffered considerable damage by clipping with most of the legends removed. It is also pierced, perhaps as a touch piece

This is a hammered silver half groat of Charles I (1625-49), probably from the Tower mint, under the King (1625-42) The coin has no inner circles, a rounder shield to the reverse and the vestiges of a triangular mint mark. The obverse has a rubbed out bust left with the remaining 'II' in the field behind the head. The reverse has the round garnished shield. The coin is most probably group D 3a1. The coin has been struck off centre; it has been clipped and is in very poor condition being bent and having lost much of the detail.

This is a hammered silver Charles I shilling from the Tower mint under the king, 1625-1642. The obverse has the crowned bust left with XII in field behind bust. The reverse has an oval garnished shield and the 'tun' mintmark, further defining the date to 1636-8. The coin is group D type 3a and in fine condition but with some clipping and damage to the rim at the 12:30 position.

A cast copper alloy fake of a Charles I silver penny. The obverse depicts the king with ruff and mantle with 'I' behind the portrait, imitating a Group B penny (Spink no.2840) but is oversized with a diameter of 15mm and has no mintmark. The bust is also crudely rendered. Interestingly, the obverse legend - CAROLUS.D.G.M.B.FR.ET.HI.RX is more closely associated with that of a half groat but with a missing 'E' in the REX. The reverse is an oval, garnished shield. The production of such an obvious fake was perhaps not for the purpose of fraud, but to create a copy as a souvenir or …

This is a hammered silver half groat of Charles I (1625-49). The coin is in poor condition, much blackened, with a small split to the rim between the 'R' and 'E' of REX. The mintmark is indistinct but may be a harp, giving a date of 1632-3. The obverse has an oval shield with no 'CR' and no inner circle. Overall the coin is blackened, marked and struck off centre.

Silver, half groat, Charles I (1625-49), Tower Mint under the King (probable), King's bust type, 1625-42. Seaby 34th edition 1999 pp259. This is a fragment of a silver Charles I half groat with the damage having been caused in the ground rather than it being a ‘cut’ coin. The damage and wear prevent full identification of the coin, however, it is probably of the 'Tower Silver' type.
