Object type: COIN
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Shropshire
Workflow stage: Published
A silver or perhaps silver plated coin of a silver denarius of Augustus dating to the period 18 BC to 16 BC (Reece Period 1). CAESARI AVGVSTO or SPQR reverse type depicting a triumphal quadriga r. surmounted by four miniature galloping horses. Spanish mint of Colonia Patricia. RIC I (rev.ed.), p.48, no.96 or 108a.
It is a brockage with the quadriga design being incuse on one side, probably due to another coin being stuck in the die during striking.
