This is a medieval hammered silver groat of Henry VI (1422-61). This coin dates from the annulet issues of 1422-30 and bears a probable, pierced cross mintmark. The obverse has the facing crowned bust of King with an annulet either side of neck. The reverse has long cross pattée dividing legends; three pellets in each quarter and an annulet in two quarters. The coin is in fair condition, being slightly bent with some clipping.

Here we have a good example of a Henry VI (1422-61 First Reign) Groat. In this case it is a little more interesting than the run of the mill Groats in that it is from the annulet issue of 1422-27 with annulets by the neck and between two sets of opposing pellets on reverse. A further interest is in the mint, being from Calais with the mintmark of an incurved pierced cross. The general condition is fair although it does appear to have been clipped and the obverse has a greater degree of wear than the reverse.

Here we have a very fine example of a Henry VI (1422-61 First Reign) Groat. Another identical coin, in worse condition, was found a few hundred yards north of this example (CPATB5C7D2). This coin, also from the Calais mint, is again from the annulet issue of 1422-27 with annulets by the neck and between two sets of opposing pellets on reverse. It has the initial mark of an incurved pierced cross. The general condition is excellent with complete legends to both the obverse and reverse sides.
